Sunday Sermon: Count Yourself Dead to Sin

On the Sunday Service of September 9, Deer Park Community Church in Chapel Hill, NC studied Romans 6.  Minister Leah delivered the message entitled " Count Yourself Dead to Sin".

"In Romans chapter 6, Paul explained the process of sanctification. One of the problem that the believers will encounter is that after receiving salvation, why believers still commit sin. There is a group claims that after receiving salvation, believers don't sin any more. But if we are true to ourselves, we are very clear that it is not true. Paul described his great struggle with the sinful nature in Romans 7, claiming himself a wretched man.  In Romans 6, Paul explained the spiritual transformation happened in believers as 'died to sin'.  Just as the ritual of baptism, as one immense himself into the water and come out, which signifys the old self dies and the new self comes alive.  Believers are those who has received this spiritual rebirth as Jesus talked with Nicodemus about being born again. Spiritually, we are new creation, yet there is this physical body we live in that want to enjoy the sinful desire in this world. As Christians, we always experience a struggle between the flesh and the spirit. On this path of sanctification, it requires discipline and also the help of the Holy Spirit. We should live offering ourselves as the instrument of righteous to do God's work and be led by the Spirit," shared Minister Leah.
